Your Weekend Roundup

Welcome back to our weekly review piece NBA fans. That was some weekend of top-level Basketball and we backed some of these big winners in our latest set of

NBA predictions

. The Celtics are still at the summit of the NBA Eastern, with the Raptors moving up to second spot; the Lakers still lead the NBA Western despite their loss this round, and the Nuggets are hot on their heels, just one place behind. Let’s dive in and see which results impacted the Conferences last weekend.

LA Lakers 104-113 Toronto Raptors

The Lakers run of seven games without a defeat ended at the weekend thanks to the rampant Raptors. Anthony Davis did everything he could in this one, but his 27 points and eight rebounds couldn’t carry the Lakers to an eighth win. LeBron James gave his all and another season triple-double, and it was the strength of the Raptors that showed in the end.

That win was everything Toronto needed and more. They now have the momentum after adding a third straight win to their 7-2 NBA season tally. Cameroonian 24-year-old Pascal Siakam dropped in 24 points and eleven rebounds with teammate Vanfleet also in on the action with 23 points and ten assists. The Raptors are hitting form at exactly the right time.

Next up for the Lakers is a trip to Phoenix to play the Suns. We are backing them to bounce back with a win. For the Raptors, it’s a repeat visit to LA where they should get a result against the Clippers.

Our prediction

LA Lakers and Toronto Raptors to both win against the Suns and the Clippers

San Antonio Spurs 115-135 Boston Celtics

Another defeat for the Spurs takes them down to eighth place in the NBA Western with a record of 5-4. They started this NBA season in promising fashion, looking set to ruffle more than a few

, but now hopes of making it to the postseason seem less realistic. The fans can be encouraged by the shot quality displayed by their team. Both Demar DeRozen and Patty Mills scored 20+, but it was not enough to overcome the NBA Eastern leading Celtics, as they cruised to victory.

The Celtics have the best record in both NBA divisions after eight games and seven solid victories. Kemba Walker was back to his usual self after an uninspiring performance against his former team, the Hornets. He played an unbelievable game for his side and had back up from Jaylen Brown, who scored 30 points in 32 minutes with seven rebounds. The Celtics have one more game to play than the second-placed Raptors.

Next up for Boston is a testing game against the in-form Mavericks, and they should have enough in the tank to take another win. The Spurs face the Grizzlies and will get back to winning ways in that one.

Our prediction

Boston Celtics to beat the Mavericks and San Antonio Spurs to beat the Grizzlies

Minnesota Timberwolves 98-100 Denver Nuggets

Towns is such an exciting prospect, and the future of this young talent looks brighter than ever. The Timberwolves lost the battle in this one, but if they improve defensively, they may yet win the war. His NBA season average of 25.7 points per game is unquestionably strong, but he needs to balance that and also lead the defense. If they can get it right, Minnesota will be a much scarier prospect for the opposition.

The Nuggets have now matched the Lakers at the top of the NBA Eastern. This game was another forward step and their fourth in a row. Centre Nikola Jokić put in another shift for Denver and netted 36 points, six rebounds, and seven assists in this crucial win. There are still question marks over this Nuggets side, but they are quietly winning games, and who knows where they might end up at the end of the season.

The Timberwolves will face the Pistons, and we expect them to win that contest. As for the Nuggets, they will play the Hawks in a must-win game if they want to stay in the hunt for the top spot.

Our prediction

The Timberwolves to beat the Pistons and Denver Nuggets to beat Atlanta Hawks
