Veteran wideout Marvin Jones Jr. is returning to Detroit after agreeing a one-year contract worth a minimum of $3 million with the Lions.
Jones, who played for the Lions from 2016 to 2020, announced on Twitter that he would be heading back to Motor City for the 2023 season.
He left Detroit for Jacksonville, and he led the Jags in receptions (73), receiving yards (832) and receiving TDs (four) in 2021.
Last summer, the Jaguars signed Christian Kirk and Zay Jones, plus tight end Evan Engram, so he became the fourth option.
However, he still made some important contributions, including a 10-yard TD pass with just 14 seconds remaining in Jacksonville’s 28-27 win against the Ravens.
Jones ultimately started 26 out of 33 games during his two years in Florida, with 119 catches for 1,361 yards and seven touchdowns.
He began his career in Cincinnati, but he had his three highest yardage seasons – 2016, 2017 and 2020 – in Detroit. In his total career, he has 542 catches for 7,386 yards and 58 TDs.
Jones has returned to replace D.J. Chark, who signed with the Panthers. He will slot in alongside Amon-Ra St. Brown and Jameson Williams in a strong receiving corps as the Lions seek a return to the playoffs.
The Lions are the +155 favorites with Caesars Sportsbook to win the NFC North. DraftKings is offering a market leading +2500 on them winning the Super Bowl, and they are just +850 to win the conference.
