Patriots Experiment at Training Camp

"Trying new things out, just seeing where I can go, anything I can do," said White, reflecting on his new role. Despite this experimental phase, White hasn't had the opportunity to evaluate his performance at fullback yet. "Today was Day 1. I haven't even watched the film yet, so we'll see," he added.
The Patriots are in a critical phase of preparation, with their first preseason game fast approaching. New defensive-minded head coach Jerod Mayo and offensive coordinator Alex Van Pelt are spearheading a transformation on both sides of the ball. "Our goal as a unit is to be the No. 1 defense. That's always the goal, to be No. 1," he stated unequivocally. White's focus on dominant play, striking with hands, and achieving vertical separation are part of his individual contributions toward this goal. "Dominant player, striking with my hands ... getting vertical separation and getting off the ball and making my tackles," he detailed.
However, the offense seems to be lagging, a remnant of the turbulent times they faced last season. The new coaching staff hopes to turn this around, although the defense may need to shoulder much of the burden if the team aims to secure victories. The Patriots will be tested as they face the Carolina Panthers this Thursday night, a much-anticipated preseason opener.
As White awaits the upcoming game, he expressed his excitement to compete against other teams. "Going against somebody else finally," he enthused, embodying the competitive spirit that defines this new-look Patriots squad. His exact playing time remains uncertain, but White’s eagerness to prove himself is palpable. "You gotta kind of ignore the noise and control what you can control, which is every day out here at practice," he advised.
