Super Bowl LIV Preview - NFL Predictions and Betting Picks

This year’s Super Bowl has caught many by surprise with two teams making it that we may not have predicted at the start of the regular season. The Niners started their season in blistering fashion, while the Chiefs maintained consistency throughout to get a shot at the Vince Lombardi trophy this season.

Let’s take a look at how both these NFL giants made it to the NFL Championship Game, the key players that could make a difference, and our prediction for the winner. It’s going to be a night of entertainment you’ll never forget, so don’t miss it.

San Francisco 49ers Regular Season

The Niners season started with a game against the Buccaneers in a game they ran out winners by 31-17. That was the first of an eight-game run that provided the base for them, making it to the postseason, and it included an impressive victory over division rivals the Rams. Another notable performance was the total domination over the Browns. That matchup was noted as one that could go either way before it started, but the Niners put any doubts about their credentials to bed with a 31-3 success.

San Francisco came down to earth with a bump in Game Week 9, though, where they were run ragged by the Seahawks. The final score made it look like a closer contest than the reality of the game, and it ended 27-24 in favor of Seattle. They came back out fighting winning the next two outings against the Cardinals, and a total demolition job on the Packers in a matchup that ended 37-8.

It was at that point that the Niners started to look a little shaky. They lost to the Ravens and then lost ground again against the Falcons after a shocking outing, dropping back to second in the NFC West. The only positive of these three games was the win they took from the Saints, by 48-46, and what a game that was.

It looked like the Niners would have to get through the wild card round to progress closer to the Super Bowl, but they weren’t done just yet. The first of the last two tests were against the Rams, and they passed that with flying colors. It left it all down to the last game of the regular season as they faced the Seahawks, with the winner taking their place in the Divisional Round. The Niners held their nerve to run out 26-21 winners.

Kansas City Chiefs Regular Season

Kansas also had a fantastic opening to the season and recorded four wins in their first four games. The victims included Divisional rivals in the form of the Raiders and the Ravens. The superb domination of the Ravens was the most surprising, although it was before Baltimore had found their season groove. That game ended 33-28 in the Chiefs favor.

The next two games couldn’t have been any worse for the Chiefs, and although they put in decent performances, both outings ending in defeat. The first disappointment came against the Colts, where they went down by 19-13. That was followed by more heartache for the players and fans, as they lost by 31 points to 24 against the Texans. The postseason hopes were starting to fade, even though it was still early in the season.

The next four matchups were up and down, with each win followed by another defeat. Kansas looked decent in all the appearances they made, but both the Packers and the Titans caused further damage to their postseason dreams. That was the catalyst for a strong finish, though.

The momentum started to build again, and Kansas clicked as a squad. It began with a 27-24 victory over Divisional rivals the Chargers and continued as the Chiefs won all their last six regular-season games. The most impressive outing of the bunch was the sublime 23-17 performance over current NFL Championship holders, the Patriots.

San Francisco 49ers Postseason

The Niners postseason started in the NFL Divisional Round fixture, where they came up against the Vikings. It was a tough call before it started, but it was a matchup that saw the Niners flourish. They finished the game with an excellent 27-10 win to book their place in the NFL Conference Championships.

This fixture saw them face a team they had already defeated in dominant fashion already this NFL season, and the odds were stacked in their favor before kickoff. The Green Bay Packers were brushed aside by San Francisco after a first-half mauling, and the game finished 37-20.

Kansas City Chiefs Postseason

The Chiefs Divisional Round game also saw them play against a side they had beaten once already in the regular season. The Texans had it all to do, particularly with the form of the opposition. It was a step too far, and Kansas progressed after seeing out the game with a 51-31 victory.

Then came the Titans, who surprisingly knocked out the Ravens in spectacular fashion. This game was too close to call from the outset, but the Chiefs held it together to secure their Super Bowl place for the first time in 50 years. The final score of 35-24 was a testament to the level and professionalism of their performance.

Super Bowl 54 Prediction

Looking at the stats from the season, the key players, and the pedigree of either side appearing in the Super Bowl this year, it’s a hard game to call. If Patrick Mahomes puts in the kind of performance we know he can for the Chiefs, they could see it out. The strength and depth of the Niners puts them in a strong position, too. They have so many players hitting form at the right time that it’s hard to look past them taking the Vince Lombardi trophy this season.

The Chiefs are the slight favorites for the game, but we’re backing the Niners. It’s often the case that the favorites lose the Super Bowl, and our money is on that happening again this year.
