A Triumphant Return for Mariajo Uribe at the Women's NSW Open

In an exhilarating final at the Women's NSW Open, Mariajo Uribe claimed victory, marking her first title win since 2011. Uribe's performance throughout the tournament was nothing short of outstanding, leading after 36 holes with remarkable scores of 67 (-5) and 65 (-7). The competition came to a head on the final day when Uribe found herself tied with English golfer Bronte Law, setting the stage for a thrilling conclusion. Uribe ultimately clinched the win with a total of 14-under-par, a testament to her skill, determination, and experience on the golf course. Reflecting on her win, Uribe could not hide her joy, especially considering the gap since her last tournament victory, "Last time I won was 2011 on a Tour and some girls were probably in kindergarten that were playing here this week!" she exclaimed.

Family Sacrifices and the Joy of Victory

Away from her family for nearly a month, Uribe's victory was made even sweeter by the sacrifices she had made to compete. She shared a touching moment, mentioning a phone call with her husband, who told her about their son waking up throughout the night. "It makes it worth it," Uribe stated, adding that the win bolstered her confidence about securing a spot in Paris, describing it as "mission accomplished."

The Final Round: A Friendly Rivalry

The last day of the tournament was a nail-biter, with Uribe and Law neck and neck. Uribe made birdies on the 1st and 14th holes but stumbled with bogeys on the 4th and 5th. Meanwhile, Law momentarily surged ahead but faced setbacks on the 13th and 14th holes. Despite dropping a shot on the 15th, Uribe rallied with a crucial birdie on the 16th and finished strong with another on the 18th. Law, demonstrating formidable skill and determination of her own, secured second place with a final round of 67 (-5). Uribe fondly reflected on the fierce yet friendly competition with Law, noting their shared history and mutual support, "I am just glad it’s over! I had good fun today, Bronte [Law] is one of my good friends – we went to the same school," Uribe said. She highlighted the importance of playing well, regardless of the outcome, and expressed relief and satisfaction as her putt on the last hole secured her victory.

Impressive Finishes and Looking Forward

The Women's NSW Open showcased the talents of many players. Marta Martin finished the week in third place on nine-under-par, followed by Cara Gainer and Pei-Ying Tsai, who tied for fourth place. Nicole Broch Estrup and Justice Bosio also made a mark, tying for sixth place, while four golfers shared eighth place. As the Ladies European Tour (LET) moves on to Coffs Harbour and Bonville Golf Resort next week, players are already setting their sights on future challenges. Among them is Bronte Law, who despite the disappointment of not winning, remains optimistic about her performance and the direction of her game, "I’m looking forward to next week and hopefully, I can do one better there," Law stated.
