The New York Rangers, New Jersey Devils, and Philadelphia Flyers have tried the new ice at MetLife Stadium. They're all preparing for two big games in the NHL's Stadium Series this weekend.

Rather than warming up for the drills, each team took to the ice to pose for group photos. After each practice, many players could skate with families and children.

The Flyers, who had a game in Toronto the night before, seemed to be getting used to the ice and preparing for their Saturday night match against the Devils.

Tortorella, head coach of the Flyers, expressed his approval of the ice condition, confidently anticipating an even better state by the following day.

I thought it was really good and I think they feel it's going to be better tomorrow

Rangers vs. Devils

The Rangers and Devils, who had home games on Thursday, participated in high-intensity drills. The Devils practiced for a shorter duration than their metropolitan division rivals by approximately 20 minutes. These rivals are scheduled to play against the Islanders on Sunday. Meanwhile, the Islanders had their practice session on this surface on Thursday.

The Rangers are currently leading the division with an eight-point advantage; the Flyers sit in third place, having collected 65 points. The Devils and the Islanders are narrowly missing out on the last playoff spot by two or three points, respectively.

When questioned about the team's undefeated streak of 4-0 in outdoor games alongside new coach Peter Laviolette's track record of no wins, three losses, and one tie in the series, the response of defenseman Jacob Trouba was sought.

"We need a different coach," joked Trouba. While departing the press conference, he made this playful comment and requested those present to keep it a secret from Laviolette, who was scheduled to speak next.

Rangers defenseman Adam Fox, a Long Island native, is excited to participate in the matches. The games will be hosted in a stadium with an 80,000 seating capacity, jointly owned by the NFL's Jets and Giants. According to the league, the hockey games will attract approximately 70,000 spectators.

Reflecting on his stadium experience, Fox admitted that he didn't attend many football games despite growing up as a Jets fan. He reminisced about attending the Giants' home opener this year, though it didn't quite go as hoped. However, he expressed optimism for a potentially better outcome in the upcoming game.

After reaching the playoffs last year for the first time since 2016, the Giants could not make it this time. They started the season with a 40-0 defeat by the Dallas Cowboys in their first home game.

Cam Atkinson, a 34-year-old player from Connecticut, looks forward to his first outdoor NHL game. His previous outdoor experience was at Fenway Park, playing for Boston College. After the training, Atkinson asked journalists where Aaron Rodgers' locker was located but found out he was not nearby.

Devils' coach Lindy Ruff advised his team to enjoy being in the spotlight while realizing its significance.

After their workout, Ruff highlighted their strong pursuit for a playoff spot. He pointed out that every game against a team above them in the rankings, especially the upcoming one, is crucial. He stressed that both teams are fully aware of the stakes, with his squad urgently needing every possible point.

The Devils and their families finished their evening practice around 7:30 p.m.

Brendan Smith shares some wisdom
