NHL Preview O’Connor still day-to-day Duchene back Kochetkov to return

Edmonton Oilers

Winger Dylan Holloway was able to make his return from illness for the Edmonton Oilers on Monday as they ran out 6-3 victors on the road to the Arizona Coyotes.

That was the first time that the Oilers had managed to secure back-to-back wins since the end of January. They’ll be looking to make it three straight victories when they host the Boston Bruins at Rogers Place on Wednesday (10:00 p.m. ET).

Edmonton aren’t expected to be dealing with any injury issues heading into the first matchup of their five-game homestand. Kris Knoblauch’s team will be looking to snap a three-game losing streak against Boston on home ice.

The Oilers are currently chasing down the Vegas Golden Knights in the Pacific Division and are three points behind in third-place, but have played four games less.

Philadelphia Flyers

The Philadelphia Flyers return to the ice for the first time in three days when they take on the Chicago Blackhawks at United Center on Wednesday (7:30 p.m. ET).

Winger Tyson Foerster is day-to-day (lower body), whilst defensemen Ryan Ellis (lower body) and Rasmus Ristolainen (upper body) remain out.

The Flyers lost 6-3 against the New Jersey Devils last Saturday as part of the NHL’s Stadium Series at MetLife Stadium. That was their second successive defeatand they now sit in third spot in the Metropolitan Division, six points off the Carolina Hurricanes.

Florida Panthers

Aaron Ekblad was able to mark his return to action for the Florida Panthers on Tuesday with a goal as he helped his team to a 3-2 overtime triumph at home to the Ottawa Senators. Anton Lundell was able to net the winner at 1:36 of overtime.

It’s a quick turnaround for the Panthers as they now head to PNC Arena, Raleigh to take on the Carolina Hurricanes on Thursday (7:00 p.m. ET). Florida will be searching for a seventh consecutive victory, and their 11th in 12 games.

Their win on Tuesday evening has now put them at the summit of the Eastern Conference standings. However, the Bruins will have a chance to return to the top when they take on the Oilers on Wednesday.

In terms of the injury report, the Panthers are only dealing with William Lockwood (concussion). He failed to take the ice against the Senators.

Colorado Avalanche

Logan O’Connor (lower body) was unable to feature for the Colorado Avalanche in their 3-1 triumph at home to the Vancouver Canucks on Tuesday, and he remains day-to-day ahead of their road game against the Detroit Red Wings on Thursday (7:00 p.m. ET) at Little Caesars Arena.

The Avalanche sealed back-to-back wins against the Canucks and their third in four games. That leaves them in second-place in the Central Division, two points behind the Dallas Stars.

Nathan MacKinnon is on a hot streak right now, and his assist against the Canucks made it 27 straight home games that he has managed to record at least a point. He has 33 goals and 59 assists in 57 games this season.

Captain Gabriel Landeskog is still out for the foreseeable future, alongside both Valeri Nichushkin and Pavel Francouz.

Dallas Stars

Miro Heiskanen was able to return on Tuesday for the Dallas Stars, but he couldn’t help them avoid a third successive defeat as they suffered a 3-1 loss on the road to the New York Rangers.

The defenseman should continue to take the ice for the Stars’ trip to face the Ottawa Senators at Canadian Tire Centre on Thursday (7:00 p.m. ET).

So should centre Matt Duchene who was able to feature as well, despite being considered a doubt due to a lower-body injury. However, Jani Hakanpää and Nils Lundkvist have both continued to miss out due to upper-body injuries.

Goalie Jake Oettinger was rested on Tuesday as Scott Wedgewood came in between the pipes. Wedgewood was able to make 23 saves during the defeat.

New York Rangers

The Rangers are playing some of their best hockey for some time, and are currently on a run of eight successive victories - their longest streak since 2015-16.

Netminder Igor Shesterkin managed to pick up his 23rd win of the season against the Stars on Tuesday, making a stunning 41 saves in the process. Kaapo Kakko also impressed for the Blueshirts as his goal marked a five-game point streak.

Defenseman Ryan Lindgren was able to play, too, despite being considered a doubt in the build up. He should be good to go again for the Rangers’ road matchup with the New Jersey Devils at Prudential Center on Thursday (7:00 p.m. ET). Both Blake Wheeler and Filip Chytil are out for the long-term.

Carolina Hurricanes

We’re set for a significant Eastern Conference clash on Thursday (7:00 p.m. ET) as the Canes welcome the Panthers to PNC Arena, Raleigh. The hosts are looking to extend their three-game winning streak.

Spencer Martin kept his spot in goal for Monday’s 6-3 win over the Chicago Blackhawks as Pyotr Kochetkov was absent due to illness. Martin made 14 out of 17 saves, but he didn’t have the best of performances. That means Kochetkov will likely return against Florida.

Fellow netminder Frederik Andersen continues to feature in practice as he recovers from a blood clotting issue. However, he isn’t expected to be ready to return to competitive action yet.

Antti Raanta is still dealing with a lower-body injury and is expected to remain out for the next couple of weeks.
