NHL Predictions, Team News & Tips – Monday October 21
Welcome back to another edition of our NHL news, updates, and predictions. This time we have Monday’s games in our sights, and there is plenty to get into this week.
The season is still young, but we can see who is in form and who needs to sort out their roster fast. Will we see any more surprises? This Monday, we have four games on the schedule and will cover all of them.
The list goes like this; Golden Knights will travel to the Flyers, Blue Jackets will take on the Maple Leafs, Avalanche pays a visit to the Blues, and the Stars will host the Senators. Time for the games, let’s get to it.
Vegas Golden Knights at Philadelphia Flyers
There has been controversy hanging over the Golden Knights after the Valentin Zykov scandal. The decision to ban him for twenty games without pay after finding performance-enhancing drugs in his system was unlikely through choice.
The Vegas-based team needs to get past that, and their form has not been terrible in the NHL this term. They are 3rd in the Pacific Division after eight games, picking up an impressive five wins. The shootout win over the Senators was a highlight, but they are looking leaky at the back.
The Flyers have also won five of their eight games, although their current form is far from satisfactory. They come into this game on the back of three straight defeats and need to get back on track.
The last win on their record came against the lowly Red Devils, and the team full of veterans looks to be out of steam. The Flyers also demoted Jack Voracek after his two-game suspension.
Prediction: Golden Knights 3-1 Flyers
Columbus Blue Jackets at Toronto Maple Leafs
The Blue Jackets are 3-3 at this stage in the NHL and find themselves on a two-game winning streak as they approach this game. In that run, they had a couple of close calls that could have gone against them.
An impressive 3-2 win over the Hurricanes, who are one of the form sides in the NHL right now, was followed up by a less magnificent win of 3-2 against the struggling Stars. What will we see from the Columbus crew this Monday?
The Maple Leafs also have a fifty percent win ratio, but that has come over eight games rather than six. They are 4th in the Atlantic Division, which is not too shabby at this stage.
The low point of the season so far was throwing away a win against the Capitals with a 4-3 loss. The highlight so far for the Toronto boys was a straightforward 4-2 victory over the Wild.
Prediction: Blue Jackets 2-3 Maple Leafs
Colorado Avalanche at St. Louis Blues
The Avalanche are up and running at full speed this season as expected. They sit at the very top of the Central Division after six games. That run has contained five victories in stunning style, with the Avalanche finding their groove.
The only defeat came after an overtime loss to the Penguins in undeserved circumstances. This team is one of the ones to watch in the NHL.
The Blues are right behind the Avalanche in 2nd spot, but that position is slightly flattering. Currently, on a three-game losing streak, the Blues need to learn to put games to bed. They have lost too many games in overtime this season.
There is nothing worse than leading games by two goals on several occasions, only to let it slip every time. This is the game to turn things around for the Blues.
Prediction: Avalanche 3-4 Blues
Ottawa Senators at Dallas Stars
The Senators travel to Dallas to face the Stars in this battle of the bottom sides in the NHL. Their opening six games have been a shambles, losing five and picking up a solitary victory against the Lightning.
That was a surprise to everyone, and the intensity they brought to that matchup needs to be repeated this Monday alongside another top performance from goaltender Nilsson. The opposition isn’t in the best of states either, so this could be the perfect game to start a resurgence.
Second-bottom of the Central Division and with a worse record of one win in eight games, the Dallas Stars need a miracle already this season. The last four games have been a washout, with defeats coming in all of them.
It’s hard to see any positives for the Stars at the moment. Top players Radulov, Seguin, and Benn are all struggling for form, and it’s killing the Stars right now. Fans and players alike are hoping they are back to their best on Monday.
Prediction: Senators 3-1 Stars
