This weekend in the NHL is action-packed as always, and we’ve got two of the most intriguing matchups for you in our weekly predictions. The season is coming to the business end, and every win matters more than ever. Let’s dive into the two games we have lined up this weekend.

Bruins vs. Red Wings

The Bruins bounced back after a defeat to Detroit two games ago with an impressive win against the Canadiens. That 4-1 win went some way to overcome the surprise loss they suffered last time they faced the Red Wings.

They have the home advantage this time, and they’ll be itching to get one over on the team that humbled them during the week. The Bruins have a one-point lead over the Lightning in second, so a slip up here could cost them top spot in the NHL Atlantic Division.

Detroit followed up that unlikely win last time they faced the Bruins with two more defeats, and they remain rooted to the bottom of the Atlantic Division. With the Bruins back in form, it’s a big ask to expect the Red Wings to do the same again on the road, and the surprise of that ultimate unlikely success will have worn off by now.

The season is already over for the Red Wings, and although that could benefit them as they play without pressure, the chances are this game will be a step too far.

Our prediction

Take advantage of slightly better odds on the Bruins to win

Golden Knights vs. Islanders

The Golden Knights are sitting pretty up in the third spot in the NHL Pacific. Last time out, they recorded an all-important victory over the Blues, but it did take an overtime goal to seal it with a final result of 6-5.

They’ll need to find a higher gear against their opposition this weekend if they want to keep the pressure on the Oilers and the Canucks ahead of them. The Golden Knights haven’t been anywhere near their best as of late, and this will be a real test of their Stanley Cup credentials. It’s sink or swim time for Vegas this weekend.

The Islanders are down to the third spot in the NHL Metropolitan, and this game needs to be the turning point, or they risk turning a decent season into a write-off. Nobody would have predicted the demolition they suffered last time out when they faced the Predators.

The Islanders succumbed to a humiliating defeat and couldn’t register a single goal as they went down by five goals to zero. Can they turn it around in this game is the question on everybody’s lips. It’s not going to be comfortable, and that’s a guarantee.

Our prediction

Golden Knights to pile the pressure on the Islanders with a tight victory here
