In a historic display of consistency and excellence, the Edmonton Oilers have now won an impressive 16 games in a row.

Following their latest victory against the Nashville Predators on Saturday, the team is just one game shy of tying the NHL record for the longest winning streak in league history.

Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl spearheaded the attack, each registering one goal and two assists in the 4-1 victory.

Edmonton's Ryan Nugent-Hopkins and Zach Hyman managed to find the scoring column while Stuart Skinner continued his stellar play in net, making 28 saves to record his franchise-record 12th consecutive victory.

The Oilers' defense has been equally impressive, allowing a league-low 59 goals against this season.

The Predators, who have lost three of their last four games, were no match for the surging Oilers.

This past week wasn’t our best hockey and we found a way to get three wins, which is a great sign. We’ve gotten great goaltending, the back end has been good, the kill has been amazing, those are all good things.

Connor Andrew McDavid

In the first period's midpoint, Edmonton netted their first goal with the man advantage, which proved to be the game-changer. With 8:21 left in the second period, McDavid sent the puck across to Draisaitl for the goal that will mark his 800th career point. This makes Leon Draisaitl the fourth-fastest player to hit that milestone.

McDavid and Draisaitl have combined for an incredible 28 goals and 76 assists this season. The duo's performances are not only driving their team's success but also making headlines as they challenge for the Hart Trophy.

The awardee of the Hart Memorial Trophy is chosen through a poll among the members of the Professional Hockey Writers' Association. Because the award is given to the player who exhibits a desire to be "most valuable" for his National Hockey League (NHL) team during the regular season, many players have won the award multiple times. While playing for the Edmonton Oilers, Leon Draisaitl has won the award in 2020 while Connor McDavid has been a recipient of the award three times (2017, 2021, and 2023).

Making a Break for It

After winning the game against the Nashville Predators, the Edmonton Oilers are now tied with the Columbus Jackets for the second-longest streak (2016-17). As may be expected, the Oilers are looking at tying the NHL record of 17 consecutive wins set by the Pittsburgh Penguins in 1992-93.

The Oilers will have an opportunity to make history when they face the Vegas Golden Knights on February 6th at the T-Mobile Arena.

It takes a lot of good efforts and a lot of good games to get to that number. We have been a bit sloppy the last three games but have obviously had some individual performances that have gotten us the wins. You need that sometimes too. It’s been a great stretch for us.

Leon Draisaitl

The Oilers' winning streak began on December 21st with a 3-1 triumph over the New York Islanders. Since then, they have posted a perfect record of 15-0-1.

They have registered 24-3-0 in their last 27 games. They have also registered a franchise-record streak of 14 games where they have not allowed more than two goals.

The Oilers may be facing a daunting task in attempting to break the NHL record, but their recent form suggests they are more than capable of extending their winning streak even further.

Stay tuned as we follow this story that is looking to be history in the making unfold.
