MLS Is Back Tournament Betting | Betting Preview | July 14
Whilst it's fair to say that it hasn't exactly been plain sailing so far, the MLS Is Back tournament has certainly delivered some seriously memorable moments for Major League Soccer fans so far. The Red Bulls stunned our previous MLS betting predictions and saw their odds slashed to+1400
, but we're turning our focus back to Groups A and B and have three more previews for you to sink your teeth into!ÂChicago Fire v Seattle Sounders - July 14, 9:00AM EDT
The Fire kick off their MLS Is Back tournament against the 2019 MLS Cup winners and we think things could get messy here. Outright odds of
+5000
make Chicago one of the biggest underdogs for the tournament, and their+650
odds of escaping Group B are still behind the Whitecaps, San Jose and Seattle on+550
,+350
and+110
respectively. Having lost the steely leadership of Bastian Schweinsteiger and the talismanic abilities of Nicolas Gaitan in the summer, it's hard to see where the quality is going to come from for the Fire.Despite being one of the favorites for the tournament with odds of
+1600
, the Sounders stuttered in their opening game against San Jose. The 0-0 tie was probably a fair result for both sides, and the familiar trio of Jordan Morris, Raul Ruidiaz, and Nicolas Lodeiro for the Sounders were pretty easily tamed by the Earthquakes. With a tricky game against the Whitecaps after this, expect to see Seattle really going for this one.Our prediction Seattle to go all out and get the win here
New York City F.C. v Orlando City - July 14, 8:00PM EDT
NYCFC might have been the best team in the 2019 MLS Eastern Conference last year, but they were soundly beaten by Philadelphia (
+1400
) in their opening game in Orlando. A 63rd minute winner from Alejandro Bedoya settled things for the dark horses of the tournament, and New York City will look to this game here to really kick things into gear now. On the other hand, despite boasting pretty much the same side that topped their conference last year, new manager Ronny Delia is suddenly now staring at the prospect of four losses from his first four games in charge.Tournament hosts Orlando City were forced to leave things late in their opening game against Inter Miami (
+2200
), and their latest MLS odds of topping Group A of+450
seem pretty optimistic with two tough games against NYC (+225
) and Philadelphia (+300
) on the horizon. Nani delivered the goods last time out, but we think he could have his work cut out from him here. Our prediction Orlando would do well to grab a tie here, but we think New York City FC will have too much for them
Philadelphia Union v Inter Miami - July 14, 10:30PM EDT
Tipped in pre-tournament odds as being a potential dark horse, Philadelphia Union have kept the superb form that saw them finish third in their Conference last season going into Orlando. A 1-0 win over New York City has made their
+300
odds look a lot more enticing, and the prospect of finishing top of Group A looks set to be in their own hands now.For Inter Miami, things are starting to feel a bit samey at this point. Another solid performance against a far more established Major League side, and yet they've come out of the other side with an 'L' next to their name. There's undoubtedly a lot of talent on the Miami roster, and there does seem to be more reasons to be optimistic than not for Inter fans, but it's probably a stretch to say they're in a position to defy our MLS betting odds and overcome one of the most form teams around right now.
Our prediction Philadelphia Union to keep the good form going and take the win here.
