The New York Rangers will take on the New York Islanders in a highly anticipated NHL Stadium Series Game at MetLife Stadium in February 2024.
The other game will pit the New Jersey Devils against the Philadelphia Flyers, according to reports on Sportsnet.
MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey, is the home of the New York Giants and New York Jets. It has never previously hosted an outdoor NHL game in the modern era.
Yankee Stadium and Citi Field are the only arenas in the New York-New Jersey region that have previously hosted outdoor NHL action.
The Rangers and the Islanders faced off against one another at Yankee Stadium in 2014, with the Rangers coming out on top. They boast a 4-0 record in outdoor games, including two victories in the Winter Classic – 3-2 against the Flyers in 2012 and 3-2 against the Buffalo Sabres in overtime at Citi Field in 2018.
The Devils have only appeared in one Stadium Series game before, losing to the Rangers in 2014.
The Devils, Rangers and Islanders finished second, third and fourth respectively in the Metropolitan Division this year, ensuring they all reached the playoffs.
The Devils got the better of the Rangers in the First Round, winning the series 4-3, while the Islanders lost to the Carolina Hurricanes. The Canes then went on to eliminate the Devils in the Second Round, before losing to Florida in the Conference Finals.
